This tour is a perfect blend of soft adventure and cultural immersion. We begin by trekking into the legendary Fairy Meadows, a high-altitude meadow that offers arguably the best view of any 8,000m peak in the world. From there, we transition to the Hunza Valley, traversing the Karakoram Highway to explore ancient silk road heritage, turquoise glacial lakes, and the high-altitude border with China
Nanga Parbat 8,126m: Sleep in wooden cabins at Fairy Meadows with the massive north face of the world’s 9th highest mountain right at your doorstep.
The Jeep Track to Tattu: Experience one of the world’s most “thrilling” mountain roads—a bucket-list item for any adventurer.
Karimabad & Forts: Explore the UNESCO-listed Baltit and Altit Forts, the spiritual and historical heart of the Hunza Valley.
Attabad Lake: Boat across the vibrant turquoise waters of a lake formed by a mountain’s collapse.
Khunjerab Pass 4,693m: Stand at the highest paved international border crossing in the world.
The Karakoram Mountain Experts team will greet you at Islamabad International Airport and transfer you to your hotel. After a short rest, we’ll enjoy a city tour including the Faisal Mosque and a sunset dinner at Monal overlooking the city.
We start our journey north early. If it’s between June and October, we take the scenic route through the Kaghan Valley, crossing the Babusar Pass 4,173m. We stop at Lulusar Lake for photos before descending into Chilas. (If the pass is closed, we take the Karakoram Highway via Besham).
The adventure ramps up! We reach Raikot Bridge and switch to 4×4 Jeeps for a 90-minute ride on the famous mountain track to Tattu Village. From there, it’s a 2-3 hour hike through pine forests to the stunning Fairy Meadows 3,30m. We overnight in cozy wooden huts.
A day of trekking. We hike to Beyal Camp and, for those feeling fit, continue to the Nanga Parbat Base Camp. Standing at the foot of the “Killer Mountain” is a life-changing experience. We return to Fairy Meadows for a bonfire and local folk music.
We hike back down to Tattu, Jeep back to the KKH, and drive toward Hunza. We stop at the junction of the three mountain ranges (Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindukush) and the Rakaposhi Viewpoint. Arrival in Karimabad by evening.
A cultural day in Central Hunza. We visit the Baltit Fort (800 years old) and Altit Fort (900 years old). We walk through the cobblestone streets of the Karimabad bazaar and drive up to Duiker (Eagle’s Nest) for a panoramic sunset view of seven peaks above 7,000m.
We head into Upper Hunza (Gojal). We take a boat across the turquoise Attabad Lake, visit the terrifyingly beautiful Hussaini Suspension Bridge, and admire the jagged Passu Cones. We spend the night in a lodge with views of the Passu Glacier.
We drive to the Khunjerab Pass 4,693m, the highest point of the KKH. This high-altitude plateau is home to the Himalayan Ibex and the world’s highest ATM! We return to Karimabad for our farewell Hunza dinner.
We begin our southward journey. We re-trace the KKH, enjoying the changing perspectives of the Indus River. We overnight in Besham or Naran to break up the drive.

Tips for the driver, jeep drivers, and porters.
It is a “Moderate” 2-3 hour hike. While uphill, the path is well-defined. If you prefer not to walk, horses can be hired locally for approximately $30-$40.
Our drivers are local specialists who drive this track daily. While it looks intimidating (and is often called one of the “most dangerous” roads), our safety record is 100% due to our experienced local crew.
Even in mid-summer, temperatures at Fairy Meadows can drop to 5C at night. Layers are key! Bring a down jacket, a headlamp, and sturdy hiking shoes.
We don’t just “tour”—we explore. Our team knows the best times to avoid the crowds and the “secret” spots for the best Nanga Parbat reflections.
