Detail

The Hunza Cherry Blossom Tour is a 9-day cultural and scenic journey through the high mountain valleys of the Karakoram. Unlike our high-altitude treks, this tour is designed for comfort and photography, focusing on the vibrant spring colors, ancient silk road history, and the unique Wakhi and Burusho cultures. We travel along the Karakoram Highway (KKH), visiting forts, turquoise lakes, and high mountain passes, all while surrounded by the blooming orchards of spring.

Tour Highlights

  • Blossom Spectacle: Witness thousands of trees in bloom across Gilgit, Hunza, Nagar, and Gulmit.

  • Ancient Forts: Explore the UNESCO-listed Baltit and Altit Forts, the ancestral seats of the Mirs of Hunza.

  • Khunjerab Pass: Visit the highest paved border crossing in the world (Pakistan-China border) at 4,693m.

  • Attabad Lake: Enjoy a boat ride on the crystal-clear turquoise waters created by a massive landslide in 2010.

  • Cultural Immersion: Walk through the narrow streets of Ganish and Gulmit to experience the local lifestyle.

Day 1: Arrival in Islamabad

The Karakoram Mountain Experts team will receive you at the Islamabad International Airport. After a transfer to your hotel and some rest, we’ll take a short city tour, visiting the Faisal Mosque and the Pakistan Monument. We conclude the day with a welcome dinner at a rooftop restaurant in the Margalla Hills.

Day 2: Fly to Gilgit & Drive to Karimabad (Hunza)

We take a breathtaking 45-minute flight to Gilgit, passing Nanga Parbat ($8,126m$). Upon arrival, we drive toward Hunza. We stop at the Continental Collision point (where the Indian and Eurasian plates met) and the Ancient Silk Road remains. We enjoy lunch at the Rakaposhi Viewpoint before arriving in Karimabad, the heart of Hunza.

Day 3: Exploring Karimabad

Today is dedicated to the history of Hunza. We visit the 700-year-old Baltit Fort and the even older Altit Fort. We stroll through the Royal Garden, which will be in full bloom, and explore the Karimabad local bazaar for handicrafts and dry fruits. In the evening, we drive up to Duiker (Eagle’s Nest) to witness a spectacular sunset over the snow-capped peaks.

Day 4: Nagar Valley & Attabad Lake

We cross the river into the Nagar Valley to visit the Hoper Glacier. We enjoy a traditional lunch in a blooming apple orchard nearby. In the afternoon, we stop at the stunning Attabad Lake for a boat ride before continuing to the village of Gulmit or Shishkat for the night.

Day 5: Excursion to Khunjerab Pass

A full-day trip to the Khunjerab National Park. We drive to the Pakistan-China border at 4,693m. Along the way, we keep an eye out for Himalayan Ibex and Golden Marmots. We return to Gulmit in the evening, passing through the dramatic scenery of the Passu Cones.

Day 6: Passu Glacier & Borith Lake

We explore the Upper Hunza region, visiting the Passu Glacier and the serene Borith Lake. We take a short hike to Ondra Fort, a viewpoint that offers a bird’s-eye view of the entire Gulmit village and the blooming valley below. We also visit Ghulkin Village to interact with the local community.

Day 7: Gulmit & Ghulkin Heritage Walk

A relaxed day of walking through the old streets of Gulmit. We visit a preserved traditional Wakhi house to learn about local architecture and domestic life. We walk through terraced fields and orchards, seeing the spring farming activities firsthand, and visit a viewpoint overlooking the Ghulkin Glacier.

Day 8: Drive back to Besham or Naran

We begin our return journey along the Karakoram Highway. We stop at the confluence of the Indus and Gilgit rivers (the meeting point of the three highest mountain ranges: Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindukush) and the Nanga Parbat viewpoint. FAQ

When is the best time for the Cherry Blossom in 2026?

The peak bloom typically occurs between March 20th and April 10th. Because different altitudes bloom at different times, this 9-day window ensures you see the best colors across the whole region.

How is the weather in spring?

Days are pleasant (15°C to 20°C), perfect for walking. However, evenings can still be chilly (5°C to 10°C), so a light jacket or fleece is recommended.

Is this tour suitable for families?

Yes! This is one of our most family-friendly tours. It involves light walking and comfortable transport, making it suitable for all ages.

Why book with Karakoram Mountain Experts?

We have deep roots in the Hunza Valley. Our guides are locals who can take you to “secret” photography spots away from the crowds and introduce you to the authentic culture of our mountain home.
