Detail

This is the “Grand Traverse” of Northern Pakistan. We begin in the Kalash Valleys, where you will experience a culture that has remained unchanged for centuries—famed for its vibrant dress, unique wine-making traditions, and spirited festivals. From there, we take the legendary road over the Shandur Pass (the world’s highest polo ground) to enter Gilgit-Baltistan. The second half of the tour is a masterclass in Karakoram grandeur, covering the turquoise waters of Phander Lake, the historical forts of Hunza, and the high-altitude frontier of the Khunjerab Pass.

Trek Highlights

  • The Kalash Culture: Immerse yourself in the Bumburet and Rumbur valleys; meet the Kalasha people, whose heritage is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

FAQ

Do I need a special permit for Kalash?

Yes, there is a small “Kalash Development Fee” collected at the entrance of the valleys, which is included in your tour price.

How is the road from Chitral to Gilgit?

It is a rugged, unpaved mountain track. This is why we use high-clearance 4×4 Jeeps. It is one of the most beautiful “off-road” experiences in Asia.

Will I see a festival?

If you travel in May (Chilam Joshi), August (Uchal), or December (Choimus), we adjust the itinerary to ensure you spend 2-3 full days at the festivals.

Why Karakoram Mountain Experts?

Most operators do either Kalash or GB. We are one of the few with the logistics to connect both seamlessly, ensuring you have the same high-quality vehicle and guide throughout the transition.
